Well, the big day has finally arrived. Ancestry has at last allowed us to download our raw data files. To download yours, sign on to your Ancestry account and fly over the DNA tab. You’ll see the selection, “Your DNA Home Page,” Click on that. Then click on “Manage Test Settings” to the right of… I suggest right-clicking on it to view it in your downloads folder, then moving it immediately to a dedicated DNA folder in your genealogy files on your computer. Rename the file something like “Sunny Morton AncestryDNA raw data” so you can easily distinguish it from other raw DNA files you may also download. This link will take you back to AncestryDNA’s web page, where you can now click the “Download DNA Raw Data” button to copy the data file to your computer. This will not remove your data from AncestryDNA. The file will probably be saved in your “Downloads” folder (unless you’ve told your internet browser to save things somewhere else.) In the email, click Confirm Data Download. A download link can be used just once, and it will work for one week. If your link has expired, initiate another download. On the Download DNA Raw Data page on Ancestry, click Download DNA Raw Data. The link from the email should bring you to a page that says Download DNA Raw Data at the top. If you have been tested at Ancestry.com, 23andMe, or MyHeritage, you should consider transferring your results to Family Tree DNA, another DNA testing company. This gives you exposure to another group of people who have had their DNA tested, as well as gives you access to some additional genetic tools that you may find useful in your research. Hi – I have created a gedcom file from Ancestry and placed into a program for my PC with no links to the internet. I want to fix up any duplicates etc. When finished I would like to create a gedcom file and put it back into the Ancestry file from where it came.
If you’ve taken a genetic test you should be able to download your raw DNA data (here’s how for 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage). The raw data itself is not super useful, but by uploading it In the Whose data would you like to download Profile field, select the person whose raw data you want to download. In the Choose between downloading data for… Data set field, select All DNA. Click Download Data to download your raw data file. Note where you save the file on your computer.
